CHAPTER TWELVE

Watching Ranai go was tough. The next morning, we woke up early, and I was officially made CEO of Cobra Collective. Once all of the paperwork went through, our members were notified, in a holographic broadcast where the both of us were present. Every active superhero saw that feed, my girlfriend bombarded with words of regret, anger, confusion, and sorrow from her fighters. In the end, everything was finalized. There was no turning back, and even though not every supe was on board with me sitting in her seat now, them’s the rules. Effective immediately, Cobra Tower would become accessible to only those I trusted, and compensation would be funneled directly to the business of crime fighting for the heroes working and living in the new headquarters. It’d be a slow migration I imagined, seeing as I still had my trust issues. But with time, I’d evaluate all the members interested, and determine who was worthy to share the same space as Anna and I.

Of course Rai had her own pick of the litter, those she truly wanted on my side. She had given me the list and I looked it over quickly, a bit more distracted with her sudden departing.

“Are you sure you got everything?” My girlfriend said, her strong gait accompanied with the sound of her heels clacking on the marble floor.

“Yeah, I think so.”

She scrunched her face. “That doesn’t sound very reassuring.”

I smirked. “Totally intentional. Trying to see if my lack of confidence will persuade you to stay.”

She giggled, and stopped her stride to look at me dearly. “I’m going to miss you, hubby.”

“Me too, pink. Remember, if shit goes south, you rush back. And I’m talking the second shit goes south. You hear me?”

Rai wrapped her arms around my waist and snatched my ass with a squeeze. “Yes dear.”

We locked lips, a gentle kiss turning into a ravenous bout of passion, until I heard footsteps down the hallway, Anna timidly standing there at the far end.

Rai gave her a lewd look. “You wanna get in on this action?”

Anna’s eyes jumped, the poor girl looking back at her ex-boss sheepishly. “Ugh, um, no! I’m sorry for staring…” She bowed. “Thank you for the opportunity.”

“You’re very welcome! But, you better enjoy the alone time you have with Michael now while it lasts. I expect this place to fill up real soon.”

She blushed, Anna struggling to get a word out as she flustered.

Rai giggled. “Oh, the shy quiet types! Always fun in bed.” Rai turned around and gave me a last peck on the cheek. “See you soon, hubs.”

“Good bye, Ranai,” Anna said with a cute wave and a soft smile, Rai giving her a wink before she vanished.

It wasn’t until she was officially gone did the thought of running an entire supe company alone dawn on me. Cobra Collective, the Cobra Tower… I guess the thought of having a council helped; people I could turn to for guidance. Granted, the council was only three members deep, but
